Spain Shore Power Project
Spain’s government approved a National Action Plan for the Decarbonisation of Maritime Transport in November 2025, backing it with €250 million in public aid over 2026–2030. Separately, the Ministry of Transport has committed over €950 million to electrifying Spanish port quaysides, with a legal deadline requiring all Spanish ports to have electrified operations by 2030. This domestic push runs in parallel with the EU’s FuelEU Maritime regulation, which will require container and passenger ships over 5,000 GT to use onshore power supply at major EU (TEN-T) ports from 1 January 2030.
Spain faces a hard 2030 deadline from both national law (all ports electrified) and EU regulation (FuelEU Maritime OPS mandate for large vessels at TEN-T ports) — making shore power a compliance requirement, not just an environmental upgrade, for Spanish ports within this decade.
AURALIS has supplied multiple 1,000kVA shore power units to Spanish port installations positioning ahead of the 2030 mandate.
